This masthead would be most suitable I think because of the way there is a soundline acting as some sort of strikethough - fitting very well with the fact the magazine is going to be a music magazine. However this makes it harder to read.

I like this masthead because of the way the letters are broken and lines are flowing, this makes it look decorative, but not too much otherwise it would not be suitable for a rock magazine.

This masthead gives people the idea that it has been broken, as the letters are broken up and within the N there are cracks, making it look like broken glass.

This is my personal favourite, as i like the way the shading and also the doodles around the lettering itself, however this may not be able to be used, considering the fact it might not be easy to read from a distance, for example if it was on a shelf in a shop.

Lesson Objectives For Tuesday 10th March 2009

By the end of this lesson I would have liked to posted a blog with ideas for my masthead.

Mainstream VS Niche!

MAINSTREAM
A mainstream magazine is one that is published and has a large circulation every month or week. It also has a large audience, for example Kerrang! features mainstream bands and a wide range of genres.

NICHE
A niche magazine is one that aims to a smaller audience, for example a magazine like Terrorizer, and its circulation is only small. Its audience is much more specific, its sub-genres are less popular, like thrash metal.

My 3 Ideas

Idea One

(Audience) A magazine aimed at males and females. It would be a mainstream magazine that focuses on rock music, but all sub-genres of rock music (like Kerrang!). It would be aimed at 16-24 year olds.
(Sub-Genre) There would be no sub-genre to this because of it being a mainstream magazine.

A name for this magazine...
GNASTY
This clearly represents something being bad, as it is said nasty, however with the G is connotes a symbol of rebellion. Nasty also connotes the behaviour of someone being nasty, and usually rock music is related

Idea Two

(Audience)This would be a niche magazine designed to feature local Sheffield bands, and aimed at the younger population of 16-24 year olds, mainly students, and both a male and female audience.
(Sub-genre) This magazine would have no particular sub-genre either as it features local bands, therefore the sub-genres of music could spread from indie to thrash metal.

A name for this magazine...
SHOOTER
This connotes the fact that the news will be getting to you fast if you read this magazine. As a bullet that is shot from a gun, goes fast.

Idea Three

(Audience) This would also be a niche magazine aimed at both sexes, age 16-24. The genre would be drum and bass.
(Sub-genre) As this would be a drum and bass magazine, this would mean it was to be a niche magazine, aiming its features at a much smaller audience.

A name for this magazine...
SLAM
This magazine name is the title of a popular song by Pendulum, and the band is drum and bass.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR MY MAGAZINES

AUDIENCE

I want my magazine to be aimed at 16-24 year olds, not only is this more 'exciting' because it will be aimed at teenagers, but considering I fit into that age group it will make it easier for me. I also wish for my magazine to be a mainstream magazine because then it will allow me to be more free, however because i like rock music, i am going to make it so that the magazine will cater for people who like rock music. I would also like my magazine to aimed at both males and females, however it will probably look more male dominant.

GENRE
I would like my magazine to have a the sub-genre of rock, making my music magazine a rock magazine.
Both of these factors will determine features such as the content, the titles, style, mastheads, colour and the entire house style.

Lesson Objectives For Monday 2nd March 2009

In todays lesson I am going to make sure that I have completed both my IPC and Bauer research.

I am going to make a start thinking of what I could do for my main project.
